If you buy — home value minus loan left
If you rent — investments grown
EMI vs first-year rent

Assumes a 20-year loan and buying costs of 7% (stamp duty, registration, fees). Ignores tax benefits and maintenance, which roughly offset each other for most buyers. Not financial advice.

Frequently asked questions

Is it better to rent or buy in Indian cities?

In big cities rental yields are often only 2–3% of the home price, so renting and investing the difference can come out ahead over short periods. Buying usually wins if you stay 10+ years and prices grow steadily.

What is the price-to-rent ratio?

Home price divided by a year of rent. Above about 30, renting tends to be cheaper in the short term; below about 20, buying tends to win.
